Pre-fight description

You see “yourself” - meaning the unit whose memory this is - looking across a field towards a ruined city. You've been here for a while - months in fact - as the trebuchets have worked on bringing down the walls which those enemy cowards are hiding behind.

It's a bleak, cold and wet morning - with a smell of metal in the air. You look briefly to your left and right. Rows upon rows of your fellow soldiers - your brothers and sisters - thousands in number. The lines stretch for hundreds of meters in each directioon.

You look forward again. The enemies have finally emerged from the ruined walls to defend their position. You feel a wave of satisfaction rush through you. Today will be a good day - a day where you can earn glory. Today, you can finally root out the filth that's been infesting one of the Empire's cities.

You hear a voice speak up:

Pre-battle speech

"Hear me, brothers and sisters of the Empire."

"The day is finally upon us. For weeks, our enemy have covered behind our walls, hoping it will save them. Well, the walls now lie crumbled. It seems our enemy has finally mustered up the courage to stand and fight."

It seems our enemy has finally decided to stand and fight."

"Look across the field. It seems they've gathered every orc they could find on the entire continent. They outnumber us - GOOD! That means every single one of you may today earn your glory - claim it! - for the battle today will be spoken off for generations to come. They will make monuments to celebrate the victory we will have here!

Today, we will break them! Today, we will retake the city that THEY DARED STEAL FROM OUR EMPIRE! So terrible will be our might that they will never again have the strength or the courage to dare challenge our empire! So terrible will be our might that the very gods they serve will tremble when they hear our names."

"Offer them no mercy, for they offered none to our people when they dared attack our land."

"Brothers. Sisters. Today, will be a good day. A day you will remember with pride!"

"For Ammindur."

"For Iomanae."

"FOR THE EMPIRE!"

<the bleak morning turns into the brightest of days, as the radiant light from hundreds of soldiers - holding their weapons high - lights up the entire battlefield>

"FORWARD!"

Battle starts

Note: Large scale medieval battles took hours - if not days. There'll be short time skips along here, so spell may expire. There wont be any chance to rest.

While walls are crumbled - they are not completely fallen. Parts of the walls still stand - and the debris doesn't exactly just disappear.

The enemy has placed casters upon what remains of these walls - and as is commonly known, casters can be devastating on the battlefield if left alone.

You've been designated to one of the troops tasked with punching through the front-lines - creating a bulge that will allow you to take out their casters early. A dangerous job, but a glorious one.

Note: “punching through the frontline” time wise is still something that can take hours. it's not just a charge and run through, as one has to actually push into the sea of enemies.

Note: front lines dont just clap together. People are not suicidal

Skill checks to push through to their designated part of the ruined walls

Valiant's Memory after first flashback:

What is Dawnbringer: Warforged - Leader of Valiant Core. Er dame.

Battle turns into a long drawn-out slaughterfest, with both sides sustaining huge losses before both end up retreating - there was no victor this day.

You see yourself in a tribune, that is filled to the brim with your fellow soldiers.

You recognize this place. You're in one of the old arenas in a settlement not far from the city you fought for a few weeks prior.

Many of the fellow soldiers around you seem hurt. An oddity, as they would normally have been healed back to health by now.

The Dawnbringer and his officers have set up a longtable in the middle, and are holding a very serious public discussion.

Dawnbringer: What does your report show.

Information officer: Yes, my Preator ("army leading general noble"). I'm afraid we have had no luck in determining what's behind Ammindur's and Iomanae's disfavor. None of our clerics have received any sort of decree or omen from them.

Dawnbringer: What of your efforts with the Cores?

Information officer: Yes. We believe it may be possible to them use of constructs' core as a source to cast magic. However.

<Looks at Dawnbringer>

Dawnbringer: Speak freely.

Information officer: I'm afraid we dont have anyone present with the expertise necessary to make this modification. Also..

Dawnbringer: Go on.

Information officer: Their cores are slowly draining. I'm afraid using them to also use the divine will just further accelerate this.

Dawnbringer: How long until they run out of power?

Information officer: The first ones we belive will run out of power in a few weeks. The longest will last maybe a year or two. Again, this is without using the cores for anything else.

Dawnbringer: Hmmmm. <deep in thought>

Information Officer: I'm afraid I have even more bad news.

Dawnbringer: Bring it.

Information Officer: A letter from the capitol. They are demanding we all return to the capitol - and for you and your officers to surrender yourself to the Senate for questioning.

<Dawnbringer thinks for a bit, not saying anything>

Information officer: What would you have us do?

Dawnbringer: We have little choice but to comply. Something sinister's about. Someone's seeking do to the Empire harm - but until we know who or what's behind all this, there's nothing we can do but follow the Senate's wishes.
