- Cabal: Emmerin di Scillante, archmage, 2nd in line magister (clergy member instead?), Te'Lik, "grunts"
○ Conversation between Emmerin di Scillante and one of the mages:
§ M: The other nobles are getting bolder. We are beginning to question your ability to keep them under control.
§ E: A violent outburst from a "lesser" noble. I've made sure they've no way of contacting the duchess without going through me. Besides, House Navara's ruin will make the other houses too spooked to interfere until it's too late. Is everything in place?
§ M: Everything is in place. It will go as planned.
§ E: Just make sure the sister gets the blame. I expect you to be able to do your part cleanly.
§ M: Careful now. You are not the one to give orders. You are useful, but not irreplaceable. You are but a piece in our grand design. We demand commitment. Loyalty. Step out of line, and we'll find someone else who can serve your role.
§ E: Hmpf….
§ M: Worry not. Do your part. Keep the other houses from acting. And when we control Marcandria, Alatri will be yours. House Ravanelli will be but a fading memory. So long as you do your part and keep the other houses in check!
§ E: As long as I get Alatri.
§ M: You will. We have plans for every eventuality. There is nothing they can do that we have not already accounted for.
§ REWRITE NOTE:
® E will ask why they cannot get rid off the duchess.
® M will reply that they will when they have no more use for her. For now, having her alive but incapacitated is the most beneficial to their cause. That gives them something to display when people get too incessent on meeting the duchess. Also note that they must break the people and nobility's trust in Ravanelli if E is to take over as "Duke Scillante". He'll tell E "we reckon you do not want an immediate rebellion when we hand you Alatri?"

§ B: Peneli?
§ Peneli: <Brothers name>. It's good to see you again. How are you holding up?
§ B: I don't know. All this responsibility is a bit much for me. She was always better at -
§ Peneli: You'll do fine, and I'm here to help you if things gets tough. Family sticks together remember.
§ B: Yes.. Family sticks togheter
® P asks how it's going with daughter. B answers she's with mother. B will also note that she wasn't happy when he told her he couldn't make it back to spend the harvest festival with her.
§ Aspects to include:
® Peneli mentions keeping the children here is an added expense that they cant really afford right now. B insists that throwing them out is out of the question
® B will mention he's sad he cant spend the festival with his daughter, as he promised. Peneli will joke that he has around 70 other children here already. B will chuckle a bit, but note that his daughter still has a special place in his heart. Peneli will note that she'll see if she can get access to the teleportation circles to get him to Vessina in time to spend the harvest festival with his daughter. B will ask if she can get that approved. Peneli will note "dont worry. It's not like the Overhold is going to have time to refuse such a small request".

§ RD: Ah. A pleasure meeting you again my dear. It's a nice little event you've put together here, though I would've hoped we could soon meet under better circumstances.
§ Peneli: A pleasure as always. I hope there'll be something to your liking.
§ RD: Will the Duchess be attending tonight?
§ Peneli: I'm afraid we haven't gotten a response from the Duchess yet
§ RD: Well I hope she'll make an appearance. I've a few matters that I need to up with her, just like I presume you do.
§ Peneli: I'm sure we all have matters we'd like to bring to the Duchess.

○ Q: Why are the nobles doing this / following Scillante / etc
○ N: Look… oh.. How do I explain this… <long pause>. About 4 years ago, the entire royal family of Marcandria was murdered. By whom we still do not know. For the nation, it was a tragedy. For the nobility, it was also a message. It was as if saying "Stay in line, or share their fate", without providing any notion of what that meant. Several families have had members mysteriously die, or suddenly be ousted for corruption or treason. The nobility is both paralyzed and locked into fractured factions as the great houses vie for control of the throne.
○ N: This is why the nobility follow along with what's going around in Alatri. It is not because they agree with it, or because they do not want to help their subjects. Splitting of from Ravanelli leaves you vulnerable; and splintering between the noble familys under Ravanelli would compromise House Ravanelli's legitimacy and claim to the throne. Do not let the simpletons who exploit these hard times to cause rebellion: If House Ravanelli's position is weakened, we risk getting crushed by the other regions. House Ravanelli are not saints, because no saint will be able to survive the malicious reality of politics. But, they have always ruled well, ruled competently. The nobles of Rosella need House Ravanelli to remain strong in order to safeguard their own interests - their family, their land, and their people. I'm hesitant to imagine what would happen if someone like di Vesci were to take control.
§ N explanation of di Vesci: He controls Revanna, a city whose only second to our capital Vessina in Marcandria. Alatri is the 3rd. The rivalry between Vessina and Revanna has always been well known; and with the fall of the royal family, this rivalry has now more than ever also extended to Alatri. Do you honestly think we will prioritize our well-being if he were to come to power?

"Super hes" frail but authorial voice. ® Cabalist § Gastan Terrizzi (M) - Ruling Lord of Luferi ® A 40 year old who looks like the last few years has aged him 20 years. Troubled by increase in lawlessness on his lands, wishes to reach Ravanelli. ® Wife and daughter ® Banditry and successon crisis has his finances brought nears its limits. Also facing pressure due to Jacope Capelli trying to challenge his Terrizi's position. ® Suffers from trying to micro-manage too much when times get tough, causing him to always be exhausted from overwork. ® Simply wishes to keep his family safe, and keep his town from tearing itself apart, and from being overrun or sacked by bandits or monsters. ® Generally a good guy who's simply overwhelmed by all that's happening, causing people to believe he does not care. § Belina SESTIRO - elegant blonde in her 30s. Fine clothes and eloquent demeanor. Also concerned about increased instability. Self-serving, but not evil. Her efforts to increase her own status and wealth often benefits those she cooperates with, since she sees that as more fruitful for her future endeavors. § Corine Valent - Nicchiara. beautiful brunette in her late 20s. Loud narcessist - talks about herself. Typically will show people fine jewelry she's obtained, or talk about something she's heard in the noble circles. § Rosalin Denisco - head of house Denisco of Seqano. Mid 60s. Very slightly chubby. Curly chin-length greying hair. Uses a walking stick and only stands for a little while, due to hip pain. ® Loves political maneuvering. Gets annoyed when people brush her off or try to deflect from a topic she brings up. A "small friendly grandma with a devious undertone when crossed". ® Wringing: Strong, indirect, sustained. Somewhat dry and strained voice, showing her age. Speaks in a slow tempo, with low volume as to not strain her voice too much. Friendly demeanor, with an undertone of "I'll destroy you if you cross me". ® WANTS: ® Not Cabal member ® Navy has been busy lately, causing fewer escorts for ship caravans, which hurts Seqano's economy. ® Bandits have also started raiding the land routes. Forest is also, as always, dangerous to travel through. ® Wants to speak with Ravanelli. If conditions continue to worsen, they risk the citizens rebelling. Wants the sea-threat to ideally be dealt with entirely so they no longer need ships to be escorted by navy. Would also like to soon be able to end diverting funds to succession-related efforts. § *Antoni De Loro - husband of ruler Ornella de Loro. Late 40s. He has short very light brown, but greying, hair. He has brown eyes, a handlebar mustache, a goatee, and a face that's starting to see some wrinkles. VERY lawful. Will emphasize what is right based on what is law, and is very much unflinching when it comes to this. ® Appears very friendly. Very introverted. § Beren Aimone - Find town he's from. Mid 20s. Good looking jock who's way too into trying to woo the ladies. § Magister Peneli Navara - 38. Thin with black hair. Fine dress, but can barely notice bandages beneath the left sleave of her dress. § Edrian/Devan Navara - 30. Light brown hair. Seems a little uncomfortable in the presence of the others. Events: ○ Arrival § Party arrives. Will be met by MG, who'll lead them to guards' armory. Will be nobility there tonight, so weapons and armor are not allowed. Safety concerns. Valiant and Cairne will be able to retrieve theirs for the match, but they'll have to return it after. Party can retrieve weapons and armor after the nobles have left. □ There are servants preparing both indoors and in the garden area. Several guards can also be seen. Some help with preparations, others stand guard. Typically in a group of guards, some help preparations while other's stand guard. Guards are also seen patrolling the noble district as a whole. § MG shows them around the 1st floor + outside. Briefly where people will be, where they can go, and where they are not allowed to go. § Will bring party to JH, who'll show them to where they can prepare their goods. JH will note that Cairne and Valiant seem strong, and asks if they can help with furniture etc. □ Finzu will excuse himself, saying he has to go help prepare the actual auction. MP allowed Finzu to join on the condition he helped out with overall preparations for auction. □ He'll be by stage, discussing schedule and best order to auction off the items with FG. Party will recognize FG's voice from conversation with Kaszin. § JH will note that Narth need to clean himself up. Nobility likes having things clean, and they can't have him act as server. Will have MG take narth to washing room to help him clean up. □ When at washing room, Narth will see children falling out from a hidden door in the wall. MG will go and "shoo" them. They'll complain she's giving them away. They're playing hide-and-seek. Seeker will find them while they're being "shoo'd", and they'll have a brief confrontation where the seeker tells them "we said no hiding downstairs". □ Children will note Narthael looks weird, and ask him why he looks weird. If he shows them some sort of magic trick, they'll want him to come upstairs and play. MG will be a bit reluctant, but her curiosity will cause her to also want to see more. □ Children will run back up using the stairs, with or without Narth. □ . □ Meanwhile, if Ari busy with preparations, then JH will note that she should cheer up a bit more. He'll note that you should make the best out of what you have. Accept whatever's happened in the past, and move forward instead of dwelling on it. □ JH doesn't know the specifics, though he'll gesture to the teenagers working in the room, and note that most of them are orphans, so he's gotten quite good at recognizing when people are not feeling well (emotionally), even if when they're trying to hide it. ○ Co-option § More guards and servants will arrive after a while. § After a few hours, just when the guests start arriving, a guard (TL) will come in and tell JH that the décor in Morning room has been tampered with. □ JH will go with guard to investigate. □ Party member outside with highest perception roll will see JH be knocked out by guard, and dragged into the wall through a hidden door. § If party goes to investigate, and find hidden entry, they'll hear conversation between TL and one of the cabal mages, through the floor. □ TL will complain that he finds wearing commoner skin disgusting, he'd rather just be the headmistress. He'll also complain that he was supposed to perform at the Nightstar tonight. □ Cabal mage will note: Remember what he's been promised. Once they've won, he'll the entire Nightstar theatre, just as he deserves. All they ask in return, is commitment and loyalty to their cause, and as part of that, he'll have to play his role. □ Cabal mage will then ask if he knows the way to House Navara's hidden chambers. TL will note that the peasent/servant (JH) has memories of where they're at, but doesn't know where PN has hidden her notes within said rooms. □ Cabal mage will tell TL to show him how to get find and get into the chambers, and he'll handle the rest on his own. TL should help out the others above, noting "make sure the sister gets the blame. Having her ostracized would be the most preferrable outcome of this endeavor, and would send the strongest message to the other guest who has so far resisted cooperating with them." ® NOTE: Need some branching pathways for cellar area, and a hidden chamber area where Navara family keeps their secret/hidden records. Should be multiple ways down, though hidden or locked, so party needs to find one of these ways down. Should be large enough so that party has to progress through a few rooms before they reach cabal mage. □ Cabal mage will start looking for all the records House Navara has regarding the Cabal, as they know PN has been investigating. They want to seize all of this. They also want to plan forged documents to frame PN for planning BN's assassination. ® Cabal mage will set up traps etc behind him, and have some creatures stand by, in case PN should come while he's there. Will also serve as warning system and obstacles for party. □ TL will return and play the role of JH. TL will never be in a place where he's not "in public", meaning party will have a difficult time doing anything without everyone being alerted, and being blamed for trying to harm him. ® Also, if they try take him out early, hint towards it perhaps being difficult for them to figure out who he's working with if they kill him. ○ Encounter (and related) with cabal mage in basement
