This book appears to be some sort of diary - or rather somewhere to scribble one's thoughts and vent one's feelings. Based on the location where it was found, it probably belonged to one of Moretti's apprentices. The “diary” is disorderly, and without any dates, making it difficult to discern how old the entries are.
A common theme as one skims through the pages is that the later one gets, the more complaining there is. The general theme seem to be complaining about longer and longer hours preparing materials for Moretti, and a general complaint regarding how it's now less fun working under Moretti than it used to be.
